CHINESE MEDICINE FOR THE MODERN WORLD:

Detoxification, Restoration, Balance

Chinese Medicine is a holistic healing system based on the principle of free and uninterrupted energy flow. It's main objective is to help activate the natural therapeutic and restorative processes in each patient's body as well as to enhance their physical and emotional well-being. As a licensed Practitioner of Chinese Medicine, I help patients empower their body's innate capacity to self-heal and thrive.

In applying ancient techniques to modern health issues, I have an appreciation for the complex situation we find ourselves in. We are currently in a paradoxical time of both excess and deficiency. Over-consumption and soil depletion leave us over-fed and under-nourished. Since the onset of the modern chemical-industrial revolution we find ourselves bombarded with toxins, while stress and the demands of a fast-paced world often leaves us running on empty. Balance is more important than ever and presents a profound challenge for many of us. Chinese Medicine is the timeless approach to balancing our bodies, minds and spirits.

To balance is to heal. To harmonize is to regulate. The needle and herb can harmonize and heal any sickness.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is the insertion of hair-thin needles to stimulate specific points on the body. Points are chosen to balance the energetic flow of the body. I’m trained in individual TCM pattern diagnosis so I tailor your treatments to work on your unique pattern, goals and needs. The recommended number and frequency of visits depends on your condition and healing process. The acupuncture session is chance to relax, recenter and re-set.

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion is a form of infrared and heat therapy in which Chinese Mugwort is burned near the skin at acupuncture points or along channels to tonify and invigorate the “qi”. It is considered a powerful healing tool for moving stagnation and dispelling pathogenic influences and is useful in treating many conditions. It feels like a pleasant warming sensation that penetrates and spreads along the energy pathways in your body.

CUPPING

Cupping is an ancient technique that uses suction to address tissue fixation, a common cause of pain. It decompresses the muscles to remove 'stuck qi and blood' allowing new blood flow into the tissues to accelerate the healing process. It also pulls toxins from the tissues, and is a great addition to many types of detoxification programs. I prefer to do a technique called "rolling" or "moving" cups, using therapeutic oil to glide the cups along the body. For most people this feels similar to a massage, except instead of the tissues being pushed, you will feel more of a pull.

What Can Acupuncture Treat?

The short answer is ‘anything you don’t go to the emergency room for’. The longer answer involves an explanation about Acupuncture being a holistic system of medicine that looks at the whole person and not just symptoms. Therefore anything (except issues requiring emergency care) can be treated from the balancing approach of Acupuncture. As Acupuncturists, we look at the unique pattern of imbalance that may be manifesting in various symptoms, conditions, and/or diseases and treat accordingly. Someone coming in with low back pain and diabetes, for example, may have a very different pattern than someone else coming in with the same western diagnosis or symptom label.

According to the World Health Organization,

Acupuncture is PROVEN effective for many conditions, including:

Low Back Pain, Neck Pain, Sciatica, Tennis Elbow, Knee Pain, Peri-Arthritis of the Shoulder, Sprains, Facial Pain, TMJ, Headache, Dental Pain, Acute and Chronic Gastritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Induction of Labor, Breech Birth Presentation, Morning Sickness, Nausea and Vomiting, Postoperative Pain, Stroke, Essential Hypertension, Primary Hypertension, Renal Colic, Leucopenia, Radiation/chemo reactions, Allergic Rhinitis, Hay Fever, Biliary Colic, Depression, Acute Bacillary Dysentery, Primary Dysmenorrhea, Acute epigastralgia, Peptic Ulcer
